NOVEMBER - 2008

- November 14. Liaison College Barrie wins a Bell Business award for the best new business.
- November 7, 2008 - (GUELPH, ON) Some of Canada’s top food professionals spent their summer at their stoves testing recipes and evaluating culinary books from more than 50 entrants and now Cuisine Canada and the University of Guelph are proud to announce the winners of the 11th annual Canadian Culinary Book Awards. Winners
- Our TWO student recipes were winners at the Eggstraordinary Egg Farmers of Ontario Contest. Congratulations to Susan Dimma for "Green Eggs and Naan" and to Sarah Hess for "Gratin of Fresh Berries". The Cook-Off took place on Nov. 19 at George Brown College, Toronto!

16 chefs from across Canada will compete in the kitchen on The Pressure Cooker. The first episode of this new show airs on Sun TV, Nov 2: 10-11pm. One of the 16 contenders is our own Chef Mick from the Toronto Downtown campus.

- Our Eggstraordinary recipes are in for the Egg Farmers of Ontario contest. You can try out our entries yourself by clicking this link to view the recipes.
- Team Canada is a winner at the World Culinary Olympics 2008 in Erfurt, Germany. They won 3 Golds in the Cold Table and Silver in the Hot Kitchen Category. Read the latest news flashes. We will post more when Shawn Whalen of Lakeshore Campus, leader of the team, returns to Toronto.
- International Home Show: Culinary Stage at the International Centre in Mississauga. The Directors of Liaison College would like to take this opportunity to thank our Chef Demonstrators: Jeff Kenny (chef instructor) from Barrie who presented two dishes at two demonstration sessions; Angela Hauler Polla (Personal Chef grad from Kitchener) who showed us Hallowe'en Tricks and Treats; Lindsay VandeKamp (Award Winning grad from Hamilton) who presented autumn squash soup served three ways. A special thanks to Gary Gingras from Barrie who assisted in the coordination of the demos and the TV appearances: A Channel in Barrie and BT in Toronto. We would also like to thank the following for helping out at our booth: Jeff Hoekman - Kitchener Campus, Angela Polla - Kitchener Campus, Christine Demko - Oakville Campus, Liz Erskine - Toronto Downtown, and Rudy Florio.

- Friday Oct. 10, tune in to Toronto's BT where Felix Sano will prepare holiday fare in promotion of the International Home Show.
- Then on Oct 11, watch Chef Jeffrey from Barrie campus, on the A Channel!
- Join Culinary Team Ontario, headed by our chef-instructors from Lakeshore Campus, as they prepare a fund-raising dinner to assist the team in their journey to Olympic Gold at the World Culinary Olympics in October 2008. The Quest for Gold dinner is October 6 at the Westin Prince Hotel. More details are availale in their flyer.
- Liaison College Barrie Campus, has been selected as a finalist in the New Business Award category for the 2008 Bell Canada Business Awards in Barrie.

- New Chef Owners at Lakeshore Campus Entertain
Let the new Chef owners of Toronto West campus tantalize your palette, September 11, 2008 at 6 p.m.
- Cuisine Canada Book Awards are Coming
The call is out for volunteers for the Cuisine Canada/University of Guelph Book Awards. Liaison College will be there to help out.
- Oakville Campus feeds 500 Rotarians at Burlington's Lakeside a la Carte festival.
Liaison College featured "Pulled BBQ Beef on Crustini with Horseradish Aioli, Crispy Onion and Cilantro Sprouts". We went through 500 pieces in the first 1 1/2 hours. We were told throughout the day that we were the favourites!

Lindsay Vandekamp won Bronze at Skills Canada, competing against chefs from across Canada.

We are proud to participate in the annual Cuisine Canada Culinary Book Awards. In an effort to fund the awards, the Oakville Campus is hosting a special evening of dining and learning with Award Winning Chef Author and Canadian Living Cooks personality, Emily Richards. You are invited to join fellow foodies for this delicious and worthy event.

- Chef's Gala Dinner to Celebrate Earth Day
The Waterloo Region Chef Assoc and others, celebrated Earth Day with local chefs who prepared a gala dinner.
- Chef Mick meets Gordon Ramsey, host of Hell's Kitchen
Chef Mick has done it again, folks! He won a competition to meet the Host of 'Hell's Kitchen'.
- Liaison College Oakville Campus Hands Out Samples at Halton Skills competition
The Halton District School Board annual competition was held at M.M. Robinson High School, Burlington. 2000 - 3000 students came from schools all around the area to obtain information about their future. Oakville campus representatives served a Black Olive Tapenade with Citrus Infused Cream Cheese and Roasted Red Pepper on Crustini. A draw was done as well, for a free Recreational Class and the lucky winner was Deshinie Alwis.
- Liaison College Hamilton - Grand Opening
The Directors and staff put on a spectacular Grand Opening at their new digs at Jackson Square, Hamilton.

CUMIS employees visited Liaison College's Oakville campus to celebrate in the kitchen!

- Attention Chocolate Lovers
Chef Ana Paula Elliott (Liaison College, Toronto) recently took her talents as a "chocolatier" on the road and shared her amazing knowledge and skills with a "Fun with Food" class in Kitchener. There were twenty eager learners on hand to watch and taste everything chocolate!
- Steel Chef Hamilton Challenge '08, Hamilton Convention Centre
Lindsay Vandecamp of Hamilton Campus, competed with David Collins of Greensville Gourmet at Steel Chef.
- Liaison College Inter-Campus Competition
Monday March 24th, we concluded our inter campus competition, at Liaison College Durham campus. We had 8 participants that included two students from Durham campus, two students from Barrie campus and one from each Hamilton, Kingston, Oakville and Downtown Toronto campuses. Students were cooking an already set menu by the judges. Winners from this competition will be competing in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition held in Waterloo on May 5-7, 2008.
- Liaison College on Discovery Channel
March 8, the Discovery Channel visited at the Oakville Campus for "Food and Kids".
- Lakeshore Campus was selected by the Pear Bureau Northwest to host the CTV noon show. Visit the Pear Bureau website for more information about the competition where you will also see that Kathleen Guthrie of Liaison College was a regional semi-finalist with her Potato and Squash Soup with Red Anjou Pear Wonton
- The CRFA Show 2008 Toronto
Liaison College held a booth at the CRFA Show this March in Toronto. CRFA brings together two major trade shows: HostEx and The Canadian Food and Beverage show. HostEx is Canada's largest hospitality trade show with nearly 10,000 food service professionals attending every year. The Canadian Food and Beverage show is dedicated to food suppliers for the hospitality industry. The trade show took place March 2-4, 2008 at the Direct Energy Center in Toronto.
- The Inter-Campus Cook Off
The inter-campus cook-off begins. Resulting winners will represent Liaison College at the Ontario Skills competition.

Liaison College of Culinary Arts wins in the 14th Annual Readers' Choice award (Silver).
